Review Material Resource Planning (MRP) Project

Client

 A large division of a $100 Billion technology company that operates in many business segments including power and gas, energy management, building technology, mobility, manufacturing automation technologies and industrial controls, healthcare, and financial services.

Project Goals

The division was in the planning phase of replacing numerous disparate Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems with a single system to reduce support costs and improve flexibility. Concurrently the company was in the process of converting production lines from a staged replenishment operation to a continuous-replacement Lean operation. Project goals included:

• Inventory the current state including functional requirements, implementation and training plans, and Lean manufacturing requirements
• Construct the MRP functional roadmap to define an overall view of how the new MRP system will operate
• 3Develop a gap analysis defining any key functional or programmatic elements that must be addressed to support the implementation plan
• Develop a realistic project plan with resource requirements incorporating the findings of the gap analysis in the form of an executive presentation
• Develop a risk assessment to realize the anticipated project benefits with mitigation strategies

Deliverables

This project delivered:

• A project plan describing the time, resources, and testing needed to implement the system
• A gap analysis derived from the roadmap and interviews with key stakeholders
• A project risk assessment with appropriate mitigation strategies

Results

• Based on project recommendations, the the MRP replacement and Lean projects were merged into a single project that utilized the provided project plan to successfully complete the implementation of both the MRP replacement and the conversion to Lean manufacturing
